Course Description
This full year course offers a comprehensive study of professional software using Apple computers. With Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator students will learn to produce, and artistically modify, images and graphics for the printed page, the Internet, and virtually any other medium. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to work with a computer as it relates to the field of graphic design.
Course Outcomes
Students will be expected to • Construct a variety of graphic designs relevant to multimedia • Use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator software programs as digital tools in the artistic process to produce various designs for printed media, booklets, pamphlets, logo identities and branding, magazine covers, and page layouts • Participate in a joint research project from an Internet source • Create dynamic elements for a web site, a digital self-portrait, and vector imaging integration within a raster format.

WEEKS 19 and 20: Vector Imaging Tools
Jan. 30 - Feb. 10, 2012
Objectives: Students will create a vector self-portrait cartoon image using Adobe Illustrator. Procedures: Step 1 - Complete the provided lesson tutorials. Step 2 - Take a picture of yourself using PhotoBooth software on your computer station. Step 3 - Create a new vertical Illustrator document (8.5 x 11 inches) and save as "YourLastName_Cartoon" in the Computer Graphics folder on the desktop of your computer workstation. Step 4 - Create the vector trace of your face using the pen tool. Be sure each layer path is labeled according to each drawn facial feature. Materials: USB flash drive for backing up work. Assessment: Each section is worth five points for a total of twenty. Criteria 1: (Procedures) Followed directions for the project accurately. Criteria 2: (Effort) Took the necessary time to develop and complete the project without rushing to get it done. Criteria 3: (Craftsmanship) Demonstrated skillful use of the elements and principles of design and digital tools. Criteria 4: (Neatness) The work is neat, clean, and complete.
