FILM CLUB is an opportunity for students to create and coordinate their own ideas for short, narrative or documentary films. Students work as a team to write a script, create storyboards, operate a professional production, and see their vision realized on screen. They take turns playing roles as a producer, director, cinematographer, and other production crew, giving them a sense of job responsibility, leadership, and teamwork in the field of filmmaking.
In collaboration with MSG Varsity, students have the opportunity to be producers of high definition, television-quality content. Video highlights of the positive, uplifting stories related to our school, not normally seen, or that go overlooked, will have the opportunity to be aired on national television and published on the Internet. Students edit video using Apple iMac computers and Final Cut Express software.

Immaculata Partners with MSG Varsity
Monday, January 10, 2011
by Kerry Hannan, Immaculata Journalism Student
Somerville, N.J. --- Immaculata High School has established a media creation partnership with MSG Varsity Program, Cablevision's 24/7 HD television network dedicated to everything high school.
Under the program, Immaculata students will produce student-generated videos to post on MSGVarsity.com. MSG Varsity will not only showcase Immaculata's athletic events and highlights, but will also feature accomplishments in academics, service and music. Many schools in the New Jersey, New York and Connecticut areas have already partnered with MSG Varsity. The program, set to begin production in late January, will generate videos, which can be watched at MSGvarsity.com under Immaculata's page, as well as on MSG Varsity's interactive channel 614. The videos will also be available on Immaculata's website eventually.
Because of the news value of the stories, the program will be based in the Journalism Department, as well as the Art Department's Digital Film class. The program will benefit from faculty member Joe DeVito's professional filmmaking expertise. DeVito said, "The currently existing quality of what we offer our students here in the digital arts has been taken to the professional level with the MSG Varsity project. This year, in collaboration with MSG Varsity, students have the opportunity to be producers of high definition, television content. In my Digital Filmmaking and Photography classes, I will be incorporating relevant projects into my curriculum. These projects will have the chance to be aired on Cablevision Channel 14 and posted on the Internet. In addition, Rich Grieshaber, Director of Outreach Service, will be a key contributor for the Campus Ministrys segments."
Immaculata students will be acting as producers and writers, so they will have hands-on experience in filming, scripting and editing. MSG Varsity provides Immaculata with filming equipment, as well as extensive technical support. MSG Varsity may choose to include school-generated videos in their broadcasts. Journalism student Lauren Peters, a junior from Somerset, is looking forward to working with MSG Varsity. "This will be a great learning experience for me. Through MSG Varsity, my classmates and I will get to learn what it's like to be newscasters and video editors and I am very excited to see what it is like."
Filmmaking is a passion for junior student Michael MacDonald of Washington Township, who plans to study medicine in college. Through his Digital Filmmaking class, and the MSG Varsity connection, he hopes to "show everyone how Immaculatans in dramatics, athletics and outreach service, exude Spartan Spirit within the school and community."
Journalism teacher Terry Kuboski is very excited about the MSG Varsity partnership. "What's very special about this program is that we not only can showcase our Spartan stars in academics, service, athletics and music, but we are giving some students the unbelievable opportunity to be a student MSG Varsity Producer. This is an incredible experience for those students who are interested in majoring in film or communications in college."
"Through our media creation program, MSG Varsity is able to provide students with valuable 21st century skills that will transfer beyond high school. We are looking forward to working with Immaculata High School and providing a positive environment for their students to create and share their stories with their friends, families and communities," said Theresa Chillianis, MSG Varsity's General Manager.
